Many people in Los Angeles, from all walks of life, are foregoing their private vehicles and taking advantage of the various methods of transportation that are available in this ever-sprawling city. Some people choose to walk or ride a bike to complete their transportation needs, but more and more are taking advantage of public transportation and, recently, car shares.
Car shares allow the users to save a ton of money on owning and operating a vehicle without restricting (too much) of how the vehicle is used. By offering their members the chance to avoid worrying about the costs of maintenance and insurance, and sometimes fuel, they can help them be more comfortable with the program. However, because most car share programs are relatively new, there are some drawbacks to using them and there may be some restrictions to go along with them.
The most notable restriction is where you can and can’t take the vehicle. While most car share companies and co-ops don’t care where you drive, they do care where you pick up and drop off the vehicle. Most car shares are too small to allow their members to take the vehicle to a new area as they don’t have pick up and drop off locations there. Thankfully, Hertz (either in rental cars or car shares) can help with this and allow you to take that road trip you’ve been dying to go on.
